Join me in supporting literacy in Washtenaw County.
I have been surrounded by books my whole life; my family has been in the book business since the 1950s. Our house was filled to the brim with books of all kinds, and I remember how excited I would get for nightly reading sessions with my dad. As I got older, I traveled with my mom to book fairs around the United States and once to Prague, Czech Republic.
I was extremely fortunate to have literacy in my life from a young age with parents who were avid readers to encourage me to read frequently and help hone my skills.
Through my time as a volunteer at Washtenaw Literacy, I have learned that not everyone is as fortunate. Washtenaw Literacy is on a mission to change this, and for 50 years, Washtenaw Literacy has sought to eliminate illiteracy in Washtenaw County.
Literacy is a right and critical for a sustainable and just society.
