Please Help Me Celebrate Washtenaw Literacy's 50th Anniversary!

Andrew and Meyrah

Dear Friends,

My mom was a born reader. Her parents – non-English speaking immigrants – valued education and nurtured her love of reading. She shared the same passion with my sisters and me, making sure we grew to become readers as well. In fact, she was an educator; her life's work was teaching remedial reading to middle-schoolers.

See that little guy on the far left in my cover photo above? That is my eldest Andrew along with his cousins, Matt and Jon. Their generation is now grown. As their great-grandparents did for my mom, they are ensuring that literacy is the fabric of the lives of their children.

The second photo is Andrew with his youngest, my granddaughter Meyrah.

We are blessed.

Not all parents have the tools to support literacy. Illiteracy cycles through generations, isolating and impoverishing families.

I have served as the Executive Director of Washtenaw Literacy for fourteen years. Every day I can feel my mom's hand in my work. The many stories of parents seeking to improve their skills so that they can ensure their children's success inspire me the most. Washtenaw Literacy is the only resource for free literacy programming for adults, 16 and older, in Washtenaw County.

To celebrate Washtenaw Literacy's 50th Anniversary,

I have set a goal to raise at least

$100 for each one of those fifty years, or $5,000.

Join my party by donating!

Reaching or exceeding that goal will be fun, but providing the foundational support for literacy that will ripple on for generations is the real investment.

Please consider donating today. Your gift will change lives.

Many thanks,

Amy
